1. Pujols and the Mail Valley

An essential stop in the department, Pujols ranks among the most beautiful French villages. It would be a shame to hike in Lot-et-Garonne without taking the time to go around this charming medieval village, which will delight heritage lovers.
After the visit, we go on a walk through the hilly landscapes of the Mail Valley: the trail goes up and down constantly, without great difficulty, but enough to accumulate a little positive elevation gain. Several beautiful views are offered along the way.
As long as you are in the area, do not hesitate to cross the Lot, direction Villeneuve, go around the historic center to the foot of the emblematic Tour de Paris.
2. Duras, its wines, and its castle

A hike of the Lot-et-Garonne that combines heritage and oenology! Duras is indeed known for its terroir and its wines, and the itinerary of this walk leads you straight to the Maison des Vins de Duras, for a possible tasting.
Easy and family hike, you walk in the near surroundings of Duras, following country roads lined with hedges. On departure or arrival, take the time to visit the castle of Duras, a beautiful building of the twelfth century and a symbol of the city.
3. Casteljaloux and Lake Clarens

A small, quiet village, Casteljaloux is located on the edge of the Landes de Gascogne: we observe on the occasion of this hike in Lot-et-Garonne the changes in the landscape, where crops give way to the pine forest.
The route starts in the central square of Casteljaloux and takes place partly in the shade of the trees, perfect for walking on sunny days: the stage at Lake Clarens (paying in summer) then makes sense to cool off in the water!
4. The vineyards of Buzet

A pleasant hike in Lot-et-Garonne to discover the wine region of Buzet, the AOC (Appellation d’Origine Contrôlée), the best known in the department. Starting from the small village of Saint-Pierre de Buzet, follow the paths that cross the well-aligned vineyards through a rich terroir from which the wine of Buzet draws all its character.
The plots, well exposed to the sun, do not have a big difference in altitude … the walk then leads you through the forest of the Landes de Gascogne to close the loop.
5. The forest of Ambrus

Ambrus is a venerable and very small village whose existence is very old. Witness on the spot the visit of the castle of Ambrus, its church of the twelfth century, and a must by its miraculous fountain! Do we ever know?
Then it’s time for a new hike in Lot-et-Garonne through the Ambrus forest: composed of pines and oaks, well shaded even in summer, it is already the Landes that are coming!
6. Agen to Castelculier via the Canal

This is one of the walks appreciated by the inhabitants of Agen to get some fresh air and walk a few kilometers. A short hike in Lot-et-Garonne that runs along the Canal latéral to the Garonne (extension of the Canal du Midi) by taking the GR652, a well-laid out and largely shaded route that allows you to get out of the city while observing its activity.
Passing through Agen, take the opportunity to couple this hike with a visit to the historic center of the capital of Lot-et-Garonne for a full day.
7. The Beauville Loop

This beautiful bastide, established high on its spur, is one of the hikes in Lot-et-Garonne not to be missed in the vicinity of Agen. Start the walk directly from the center of Beauville, along its narrow streets and along the old walkway.
Then, the path leads you out of the village: cross the valley to the church of Marcoux, for the viewpoint, then close the loop through fields to reach Beauville.
8. The forest of Campet

Back in the west of the department for a hike in Lot-et-Garonne in the shade of pines and oaks: the campet state forest is the ideal place to walk and escape the sun at the same time.
The main loop, marked in yellow, follows a flat terrain on sandy ground, crosses with two reprises and runs along the small river of the Avance, and leaves freedom for some variants.
9. The bastide of Aiguillon

Due to its strategic position at the confluence of the Lot and the Garonne, Aiguillon has long been a fortified place: it remains today as one of the prettiest bastides in Gascony. It is also the starting point for a beautiful hike in Lot-et-Garonne, an excursion that will take you a good half day to explore the surroundings.
Many points of view are available to you throughout a hike that passes from one relief to another for a well-hilly course. Back in Aiguillon, do not miss a visit to the castle of the Duke of Aiguillon, the highlight of the day.
